Stefan Comar started learning at the age of 12. He has completed Tertiary music studies at Kangan and Melbourne Polytechnic. You can catch Stefan performing with his band “Cargo Nights”. Stefan says: “Music is a form of expression. It is about how you connect to the guitar and that comes from inside the soul”

Jennifer has been studying music since she was 5. She is currently studying Health Science. This will be a pathway to becoming a Music Therapist. Jennifer loves teaching. She says “There is nothing more rewarding than seeing my students enjoy music as I do”

Jamie started learning the drums as one of our very own students. He has come full circle and is now one of our teachers. He has played in bands with diverse musical styles. His current band “Terra is a punk/alternative rock band. Jamie’s loves “watching his students learn their first beat. He loves seeing them get excited and determined to learn more.”

Dave has a wealth of musical knowledge. He has been studying and playing for over 30 years. Dave has been teaching at NMS for 6 years. For Dave, the reward of teaching is “the look on a student’s face when they understand the language of music” Dave has played in many bands over the years. He is currently performing mainstream latin, funk and soul in the duo “Sam and Dave”

Leon has been playing piano and keyboards and singing for over 30 years. He has performed in touring bands all over Australia. He is now playing keyboards and singing in duos and trios. Leon is also composing and recording original songs. Leon finds pure joy “when a student plays a musical piece to their own surprise.”

Dave Curro is based in Templestowe Lower in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, and has taught in schools including Trinity Grammar School in Kew, as well as taking on private students from AMEB preliminary to LMUS standard. He also offers coaching in Suzuki violin repertoire, ABRSM syllabus and VCE Music Performance.

A passionate violinist and teacher with over 20 years experience, he focuses on the fundamentals of good rhythm, intonation and musicianship to develop his students into versatile players who understand music as more than notes on a page.

Growing up in one of Brisbane's most musical families, Dave was surrounded by music from a young age. His father John Curro AM MBE was the founder and musical director (for over 50 years) of the Queensland Youth Orchestras, as well as one of the state's most respected string teachers. His siblings are among Australia's finest instrumentalists, holding positions in the Queensland Symphony, Melbourne Symphony, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Plexus Collective and more.

Training in the esteemed Queensland Youth Symphony, Dave toured with the orchestra regionally and internationally.

He has since worked with orchestras and in recording studios across Australia including Opera Victoria, the Sydney International Orchestra, Metropolitan Orchestra, Philharmonia Choirs, Polyphonic Voices, Canticum Chamber Orchestra, the Glenn Miller Orchestra (USA), and recording for X Factor (TV), Labrinth, Human Nature, Katie Noonan, Delta Goodrem, Joe Chindamo and many more.

Dave holds a bachelor of Creative Industries from Queensland University of Technology and a valid current Working With Children check.
